Symposium success and finalisation of the NTCER review

I’m not sure how all of you were feeling at 8am on Wednesday May 13th, but I felt a combination of exhilaration, pride, and humbleness to have been a part of an exciting first in supervisor education in Australia. Of course, I am referring to the GPSA Supervisor Symposium; a first of its kind, 24-hr education marathon, led by our Education Manager, Dr Simon Morgan.

On a personal note, and one I suspect resonates with many who attended, there was a distinct feeling of being “with my people.” In a landscape where supervisory work can at times feel complex and isolating, the symposium provided a valuable opportunity to connect with others who truly understand the nuances, rewards, and responsibilities of the role. That sense of shared identity and mutual understanding is both grounding and inspiring.

I extend my sincere thanks to all who contributed to the success of the symposium. The energy, insight, and generosity brought into the space have set a strong foundation for future engagement.

In other news, GPSA and GPRA have concluded the review of the NTCER for 2026-2028. The general summary of changes includes registrar base rate increase (in line with annual MBS indexation), flexible administration time for GPT3 and GPT4 terms and the inclusion of unpaid cultural leave. The updated NTCER, employment contracts and helpful FAQs can be found on our website.
