Recognition of Service Awards

Twenty-seven GP supervisors with a combined 470-plus years of service have been recognised so far in 2019 for their long-term commitment to training Australia’s future family doctors.

The dedicated supervisors who have received Recognition of Service Awards between January and September, 2019, represent a diverse range of practices in rural, remote, regional and metropolitan locations.

Doctors Penny Browne and Simon Hosking have been recognised for 30-plus years’ service as GP supervisors.

General Practice Supervisors Australia established the Recognition of Service Awards as part of the organisation’s broader strategy to ensure GP supervisors are Respected, Recognised and Rewarded for dedication to nurturing the next generation of family practitioners.

“General practice supervisors are at the coal-face of GP training,” GPSA chair Dr Gerard Connors said.

“Our communities receive high quality care from trainees and GPs. It is the apprenticeship model that supports best health outcomes for patients, and we are proud to recognise our colleagues for their many years of service.”

Dr Connors said GPSA looked forward to receiving more nominations this year to celebrate supervisors with more than 10-years of service.

“There are a lot of supervisors throughout the country who have dedicated many years to training GP registrars, and we take a lot of pride in rewarding them for their wonderful service,” Dr Connors said.

“In the first nine months of 2019, we have acknowledged nearly 30 supervisors with a combined total of more than 470 years dedication to GP training; and we look forward to recognising more supervisors before the year’s end. Nominate a supervisor here.
